Shooting at Enterprise Walmart kills suspect in police custody

ENTERPRISE, Ala. (WTVY) — A dispute that began in the parking lot quickly spilled over into the Enterprise Walmart where a person was fatally shot Wednesday night.

The altercation escalated when the two individuals pulled out weapons.

Several shots were fired at the popular department store, according to Enterprise Police Captain Billy Haglund.

He told News 4 the shooting involved a handgun.

Investigators arrested a suspect, but no charges were immediately filed.

The investigation is ongoing.

Customers were ordered to stay in the store, likely because police wanted to make sure the scene had been secured and interview witnesses.

No other injuries were reported.

The identity of the victim is pending.

Within hours, a heavy police presence had thinned.

“I haven’t seen so many officers in one place in a long time,” WTVY news director Stephen Crews said as he drove through Enterprise on his way home from Pike County.

Additional information will be released and this story will be updated.
